Viti Levu (Nadi) - South Pacific Island 1
Well after our amazing business class trip from Auckland we arrived in Nadi. Compared to the weather in New Zealand it was certainly a shock to the system as we arrived in hot and humid conditions!
We spent the first couple of days working out where we were going to head in our 5 weeks in Fiji! After finally deciding by about 5pm we asked where we were staying if they could book it all for us as they ran a travel service. In true "Fiji time", their six phone calls took somewhere in the region of about 3 hours! However, our first few places were booked.
We took a walk the one day into rather attractive (not!) Nadi town. To be honest it was more like being back in Delhi as it was so dirty! People here, however, did seem more friendly until we realised that they are all just after your dollar! One guy invited us in for Kava, the traditional Fijian drink, in exchange for us looking around his shop! He did try to get us to buy something but without our money on us he was certainly out of luck!
The following day we bought our supplies ready to head off to the islands that we had long been waiting for. At the beach where we were meeting the boat to take us off we heard that indeed there had been a tsunami in the Solomon Islands and that Fiji were also on tsunami warning! We're not quite convinced of how serious they took it after reading of the only warning in Fiji...
